How to Set a Custom Ringtone on Android

If you want to personalize your Android experience and make it unique from everyone else’s, then there are several ways you can do that with the customization options available to you. One such way is by setting a custom ringtone. With this tutorial, you will learn how to set up any song or audio file as your ringtone on Android.

1: Find the file you want as your ringtone
It can be any audio file, in any format. Popular options include MP3, M4A, OGG and WAV. If it’s in another format you’ll need a program like Audio Copy or Air Sharing (Mac) or Double Twist (PC) to transfer it. Once you’ve found your song of choice, make sure it’s easy to find and access—you’ll need easy access during step three.

2: Convert it into an mp3 format
Since an MP3 is what your phone will understand and accept, you need to make sure that your music file is in that format. There are tons of free online converters that allow you to take any sound file (of any format) and turn it into an MP3. Just go Google convert audio file xyz for instructions. For Mac users, iTunes already has a built-in converter that works perfectly fine if you just want to change one or two songs and don’t want to download anything else.

3: Download an app (I use Free File Converter)
The next step is downloading an app that will let you convert your mp3 into a format your phone can use. There are plenty of apps out there that do it, but I just used Free File Converter and it worked great. Plus, it’s free! Just search Free File Converter in Google Play and install it. You won’t need to sign up for anything or pay any money at all.

4: Open the app and follow instructions
With your newly created ringtone, you’re ready to go. When someone calls you and your phone is on silent, it will be loud and clear that someone is trying to get in touch with you. You can set your own custom ringtones without paying for them. Enjoy your new ring tone and don’t worry about missing calls anymore!

5: Enjoy your new ringtone!
Once you’ve downloaded your new ringtone and saved it, go back into settings, find Sound under Device and select Ringtones. From there you can select your new custom ringtone from your list of saved files. That’s it! It’s ready to use. Enjoy!
